 WEAKNESSES - LED initiatives implemented in a fragmented and uncoordinated manner.
- Great spatial separations and disparities between towns and townships
- Urban sprawl increase service provision and transport costs high
- Increasing unemployment
- Decline in sectoral economic activity
- Inadequate education and new skills levels
- Two thirds of the population earn less than R1500.00 per month.
- High levels of poverty
- Manufacturing industries are stagnating and shedding jobs
- The dominance of the mining sector renders the regional economy extremely vulnerable to external market fluctuations.
